The Southwest Kansas Incident Management Team is a Local/State (Type 4) IMT, made up of 27 members from across the 18 counties of the Southwest Kansas Region. Team members come from many different disciplines, including Emergency Management, Law Enforcement, Fire Service, Emergency Medical Service, Public Health, Hospitals, Public Works and Private Industry. Their employers have made a two year commitment to the Team, allowing them to train and deploy, unless they are needed at home.

All IMT members are trained in the use of the Incident Command System; and have had additional training in the duties and responsibilities of the Command and General Staff. The Team is currently funded as a project of the Southwest Kansas Regional Emergency Planning Council, using monies from the State Homeland Security Grant Program.

When a jurisdiction or agency needs help managing an incident, or an event, their County Emergency Manager will contact the Kansas Division of Emergency Management to request the IMT. The Team will be notified and respond to provide assistance as a State Asset or under the Kansas Mutual Aid Stautes.
