IMT Member Resources

The Kansas Incident Management Team System consists of seven Type 4 (Local/Regional) teams, one in each of the State's Homeland Security Regions. These teams are available to assist jurisdictions and agencies manage incidents and events. Each team is funded by their Regional Council, which provides them with basic equipment and training opportunities. Team members, and their employers, agree to a two year commitment of service, and make every effort to ensure that they will attend trainings and deploy as needed. Team members across the State come from a wide variety of professional backgrounds, including Emergency Management, Fire Service, Emergency Medical Service, Law Enforcement, Public Works, Public Health, Hospitals, City and County Government, Non-Profits and the Private Sector.

Each Region maintains an On-Call Team at all times, usually rotating coverage on a monthly basis. All requests for deployments are made through the County Emergency Management Agency, to the appropriate contact. Teams can be requested to respond locally within their Regions, by coordinating with the Team Manager. Teams may be deployed across the State, under the authority of the Adjutant General, through coordination with the Kansas Division of Emergency Management. Team members have responded to such disasters as Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, 2006 Western Kansas Ice Storm, Greensburg, KS Tornado, 2007 Southeast Kansas Floods, 2008 Iowa Floods, Hurricanes Gustav and Ike, and other smaller incidents.

The IMT Working Group is the oversight body for all the Teams, and ensures consistency in team composition, training, equipment and deployment policies. The Working Group is made up of two IMT members from each of the seven regions and representatives from the Kansas Division of Emergency Management and the Kansas Fire and Rescue Training Institute. To date the Working Group has coordinated the presentation of several deliveries of the Command and General Staff for Local IMTs course, as well as Position Specific trainings. The goal is to offer team members across the State the opportunity to attend quality training, in order to build on their capabilities and experience.
